madi person

By casting plant life with the ancient medium of clay, Madi explores change, adaptation, loss, and grief. At the core of her practice exists the paradoxical relationship between the ephemeral flora and the enduring materiality of ceramics. Her work inhabits the space between fractal iterations and organic chaos. With a background in herbal gardening, Madi considers the medicinal properties and ecological roles of the plants she works with. Gravitating towards plants considered to be invasive, she ponders the role of their existence in landscapes disrupted by colonialism and industrialism. Madi is concerned with memory within creatures that inhabit land, as well as those held by the collective.
